Who is David Emami?
David Emami lives alone in Portland, Oregon and would like to keep it that way. He likes being alone because being alone means not having to talk with anyone.
David’s favorite color is brown because it works with just about anything and isn’t too flashy. He is an avid collector of antiques, and though his 1 bedroom apartment is relatively tiny, he collects and collects without regard for space.
During the holidays, particularly around Christmas, his home comes alive with colors and sounds that you might expect to see and hear in the 1960s. From the bowls he eats from to the vacuum that cleans his carpets, every piece in his home is antique and yet is quite pristine. Having severe obsessive compulsive disorder, David likes things his way, and when someone else invades his space, it often isn’t pretty.
Some may say that David is a grumpy person, but he actually just prefers solitude over socializing. David was once married, but divorced decades ago. His only daughter, Becky, lives as a single mom in Tualatin, Oregon to her only daughter, Laura. David occasionally sees them, though he wouldn’t consider himself the best father and certainly won’t be receiving grandfather of the year anytime soon.
David’s best friend is Fred, his female cat. Its previous owner was blind and senile and was convinced it was a male, so the name stuck, and the cat will forever be confused about its gender. David talks with his feline friend as if Fred was an actual person, and is perfectly happy not having someone to argue with him.
David works as a substitute janitor for Portland Public Schools because he enjoys flexibility. When he wants a day off, he gladly takes it. Since it’s only him, the income is more than enough for him to put away money each month. Though he’s in his late 50s, he sees no reason to retire anytime soon. He takes pride in his job and likes keeping things clean. It’s a job that allows him to work when he wants and allows him to avoid the conflict of having a boss look over his shoulder every two minutes.
David has a heart deep down inside; people just don’t know him well enough to see it. Though he mostly watches out for himself, he’s never the type to hurt others.
