Fred and Barbra Streisand were driving David Emami crazy, so he had to get out of his apartment to get some fresh air. As David was strolling down the street, he saw the KGW local news van. Intrigued, David approached and saw them filming a live scene.
David thought it would be a great opportunity to show off his acting skills, so he fixed his glasses, straightened his coat, then began walking slowly in the background, looking very serious and sophisticated.
Once he finished walking across, he stood on the sidewalk, just out of the shot and watched them finish the clip. They then looked around while holding a microphone, and David knew it was his moment to shine. David approached them and his dream came true.
“Sir, would you be willing to talk to us for a few seconds?” asked the beautiful young newscaster.
“Absolutely!” replied David.
“Great! We’re asking people what they think of the new school bond that just passed that requires residents to pay more in taxes so students can have access to laptop computers.”
“Oh, okay,” said David, even though he knew nothing of the bond because he hated political matters with a passion.
“What’s your name, sir?”
“My name is David Emami,” he replied.
“Perfect. Rolling in 3, 2, 1!” said the lady. “We’re here live in Portland talking to David about the newest bond measure that just passed to put laptop computers in the hands of all students. David, what you think of that?”
David smiled and said, “I don’t think kids need laptops. They just waste their time watching YouTube cat videos and messaging naked pictures of themselves.” David was fairly old-fashioned, and knew very little about today’s children other than what he heard on television.
“But what about giving children access to the internet for educational purposes?” she asked.
“They should use a textbook like I did,” he responded.
“Okay, sounds like David has his mind firmly set!” She finished the broadcast, then shook David’s hand, and they were on their way.
David was elated. He had fulfilled a dream of making it onto the news. Perhaps, he thought, acting agencies would begin contacting him to see more of his raw talent.
David Emami is Alone in Portland is a collection of stories that peer into the life of a middle-aged curmudgeon with a fondness for cats and antiques.
Playfully illustrated with Bitmoji characters, his story comes to life as each day brings a new adventure.
He was obsessive compulsive and mad about antiques. The apartment was covered, top to bottom, in decor that would be more aligned with that of an old woman that peaked in the 1960s. david-emami-takes-on-portland.html
